First adventure of my internship in Brazil
10 september 2018 - Cotriguaçu, Brazilië
On Monday the 3rd of September I left for Brazil to do research on the Harpy Eagle. After four stops I finally arrived at my destination: Fazenda São Nicolau. My luggage got some delay and arrived two days later. The first days were not easy; hardly anyone speaks English, it is 36 degrees and all the insects buzzing around my head driving my crazy. After 3 days of working in the field I start to get used to it. When we trudge through the dense jungle on our way to a Harpy Eagle nest, the insects usually leave me alone, the plants, on the other hand, still find it very funny to let me stumble, bruise and scratch my legs and pull my hair.
To give you an impression of my fieldwork: Yesterday we went to see a nest that is quite far from the research center. We had to go by boat for about 1,5 hours, a good hour hiking through the jungle and once we arrived we found out that the nest had fallen (the animals were not using the nest anymore). After eating our own found lunch: Brazil nuts, we could start our way back home. There was another nest on the way back that we were supposed to check but because there was rain coming we had to cancel that plan. After we got totally soaked by a downpour and a good half hour by boat further, we ran out of fuel. So there had to be paddled until we found help or fuel, which we found about an hour later.
We all made it safe home hahah
Leuk geschreven Niek ;)

Doe je een beetje voorzichtig in de jungle? Ik vond het erg leuk om je verhaaltje te lezen en ben blij dat je eindelijk je bagage hebt!
